Black composed The Sopranos TV show theme tune, Woke Up This Morning, with his band The Alabama 3 who say his death has left them ‘heartbroken’.
The news confirmed on Tuesday night, just four days after his final gig at Highpoint Festival in Lancashire.
Black, who also went by the band alias The Very Reverend D. Wayne Love, was reportedly taken ill after Friday’s show and died in hospital on Tuesday afternoon.

‘After a magnificent performance at the Highpoint Festival in Lancashire, D.Wayne in his supreme wisdom, decided it was the appropriate moment for his ascension into the next level. The transition was painless and peaceful.’
Black’s ‘brothers’ Larry Love, L.B. Dope, The Spirit, Jonny Jamm and Sister Therese Mullan were all with him when he died, the tribute said.

They started out under the name First Presleyterian Church of Elvis the Divine, but swiftly changed it to Alabama 3 before signing their recording deal in 1997.
Their music has featured in such films as Gone In 60 Seconds, Football Factory and Definitely, Maybe.
However, their most famous coo, was a remix of Woke Up This Morning which played during the opening credits of the HBO television series The Sopranos.
They have continued to tour as a band, right until Black’s death this week.
Their next scheduled performance is on Friday, playing At The Riverside in Newcastle. So far, there has been no information about whether they will perform.
