Activists suspended over anti-Semitism in plot to oust Momentum's Jewish founder

EX-LABOUR activists who have been accused of anti-Semitism are plotting to force out Momentum’s Jewish leader.
Suspended Labour member Jackie Walker and ex-Labour activist Tony Greenstein are campaigning for the grassroots organisation to ditch Jon Lansman.

Ms Walker, who its understood is still subject to an ongoing investigation over anti-Semitism allegations, started a petition calling for him to “resign immediately or call for him to be removed” because the group has “lost its way”.
The petition, which has got almost 1,000 signatures so far, demands a “new pro-Corbyn campaign group” be set up instead.
It says that Momentum, a group set up to support Jeremy Corbyn, has failed to support suspended MP Chris Williamson when he said the party had been “too apologetic” about anti-Semitism in its ranks, as well as others.
They are furious with him for implementing new rules in the organisation too.
Momentum’s founder warned last month that there was a “major problem” with anti-Semitism in its ranks which was “widespread”.
And he told Radio 4: “I think it is now obvious that we have a much larger number of people with hardcore antisemitic opinions which, unfortunately, is polluting the atmosphere in a lot of constituency parties and in particular online. We have to deal with these people.”
Activists were also fuming after a number of Corbyn supporters launched an open letter apologising for the anti-Jew hate in its ranks.
Ms Walker said on Facebook sharing the petition: “Momentum must ditch Jon Lansman! Make your feelings known… it’s the only way.”
Dozens said they were or would quit the organisation in protest.
And many of her friends and followers agreed and signed the petition.
The news comes after Camden Momentum called for the removal of Mr Lansman from the organisation in a motion earlier this month.
Activists in North London said he “has made contentious and inappropriate remarks about antisemitism, effectively siding with those who have made unfounded allegations against the party, its members and its leadership”.
They said: “Jon Lansman’s remarks have undermined both Momentum and the Labour Party.”

Booted activist Tony Greenstein said on Twitter of the Momentum boss: “Unfortunately Jon Lansman of the misnamed People’s Momentum is doing nothing other than stirring the fires of false and fake ‘anti-Semitism’.”
Hundreds of activists said they backed the call.
One, David Morgan, wrote: “We never elected this man and Momentum have lost its way.
“We need leadership that will support Jeremy Corbyn.”
Labour’s MP John Mann, who has repeatedly blasted anti-Semitism in the party’s ranks, told The Sun: “Even the Owner of Momentum is being targeted by the extremists.
“One has to conclude that this is purely because he is Jewish.
“For some, there appears to be no limit to how far they will take their twisted ideology.”

Another activist Stephen Holloway, wrote: “Lansman has proven himself to be a scheming backstabber. He must leave or be expelled.”
And one said: “Momentum are haemorrhaging members because of Lansman.”
Labour Party sources said it did not comment on ongoing disciplinary matters.
Momentum didn’t reply to multiple requests for comment.
