Just days before his trial date was set, a man charged with the murder of Wellington woman Warriena Wright has posted a picture of himself smiling and relaxing on a golf course.
Gold Coast carpet layer Gable Tostee, 30, was charged with the murder of Ms Wright after the 26-year-old fell 14 floors from the balcony of his luxury Surfers Paradise apartment in August 2014.
Ms Wright, from Lower Hutt, was in Australia for a wedding at the time and the pair had met through the Tinder dating app just hours earlier.
Two weeks have been set aside for the trial, which is due to begin in Brisbane’s Supreme Court on October 31, AAP reported today.
Meanwhile, Tostee — who has changed his name by deed poll to Eric Thomas — has remained active on social media, posting comments about Donald Trump, Zayne Malik and buying cammouflage pants.
His latest post, on Thursday, comes with a picture of him on a golf course, with a putter slung across his shoulder and the message: “Decided it was time for a new profile pic.”
The Facebook profile describes his occupation as “witch” of “witch hunt”.
The charge isn’t the first Tostee has faced.
In February 2014 Tostee was jailed for 10 months after he led police on a high-speed pursuit, and was on bail for Ms Wright’s alleged murder at the time.
He served six months of the sentence and was released.
Last year, he appeared at Brisbane’s Southport Magistrates Court on charges unrelated to Ms Wright’s death.
He was convicted of charges of drink driving and breaching bail conditions and was suspended from driving for 15 months, while unrelated charges of obstructing police and public nuisance were dismissed.
At the time, he posted a video of himself walking toward the court entrance, with a message reading: “This is what you don’t see — what it is like to be on the other side of the headlines, the photos, and the TV screen.”
