Tragedy struck yesterday as a Customs Officer attached to the Port and
Multi-Purpose Terminal Services, PTML, command of the Customs
Service, NCS, rode his boss’ power bike under a moving petroleum tanker
and died immediately.
The officer, identified as Muri was test driving the power bike which Vanguard gathered had just been acquired by his boss, identified as Olagunju, when the accident occurred.
An eyewitness told Vanguard that the accident has thrown the entire
command into a mourning mood as the boss of the deceased was also shaken
by the accident.

The eyewitness said:
“The man was test driving the power bike that was bought by one of the
gate officers at PMTL and he was on top speed, he ran under a truck that
was moving and in a few minutes the man was lifeless”

When Vanguard visited the command, the Public Relations Officers of the
command, Mr. Steve Okonmma was seen making frantic efforts to reach the
family of the deceased through his (Muri) mobile phone.

It was gathered that while the tanker driver escaped arrest, an
articulated vehicle that was also involved in the accident was promptly
arrested.
It was also confirmed that when the command eventually reached the
deceased family, they requested that he should be buried immediately in
accordance with Islamic rites.
