Two people charged with plotting a Valentine’s Day massacre at a mall
in the Canadian port of Halifax chose not to seek bail in their first
court appearance.
, 23, and Randall Shepherd,
20, face charges of conspiracy to commit murder, arson and use a
dangerous weapon, as well as making threats over social media.
Police
alleged they planned to go on a shooting rampage at a mall in the port
city of Halifax, which is home to ’s Atlantic fleet, and then
commit suicide.

After receiving a tip, police tracked them down
and arrested them at the Halifax airport. Shepherd was picking up
Souvannarath, who had arrived on a flight from her hometown of Geneva,
Illinois.
A third suspect, James Gamble, 19, was found dead at his parent’s Halifax area home.
Souvannarath and Shepherd are expected to be back in court on March 6.
